Timing Sports utilise brand new RFID timing equipment from IPICO Sports as well as legacy digital systems from ChampionChip. Please read on to find out more about our timing equipment.
IPICO Sports
Several years in development, the IPICO Sports dual frequency RFID system came of age in 2007 when it was used to successfully time 50,000 athletes at the Bolder Boulder in Colorado, USA. Despite teething problems in handling the deluge of athlete data, the system was such a success that the Bolder Boulder entered into a multi-year deal with IPICO Sports. Since then, the system has made significant sales throughout North and South America, Europe and Australasia and has been successfully deployed at many major events worldwide.
The IPICO system offers significant advantages for race organisers, including:
- Wider uninterrupted timing lines: two IPICO Elite readers can provide up to 19 metres width for major event start lines without the need to place any equipment in the middle of the line. Previously, Timing Sports start line capacity was limited to 8 metres of clear width. The new start line configuration will be used at the 2009 City to Surf and what a sight it will be!
- Attractive Timing Tag: compared to the ChampionChip, the IPICO IP-X RFID Tag is a thing of beauty. Slightly heavier than traditional plastic coated chips, the IPICO tag is a stiff, thin laminated plastic square, about half the size of a credit card, with four holes in it. The tag can be tied into shoe laces or secured to laces with twist ties. Custom tags make excellent collectables and many events are now offering this as additional sponsorship collateral with the added advantage of no chip retrieval at the finish line. Please contact us for pricing information for custom tags.
ChampionChip
In addition to our new IPICO Systems, Timing Sports continues to own a significant inventory of legacy ChampionChip timing equipment. Still the benchmark for timing accuracy and reliability, our ChampionChip systems are tried and tested and will continue to be used at smaller events for the immediate future. Most of our ChampionChip digital timing systems have been with us for over three years now and they continue to perform excellently for events where their additional weight and smaller width is not an issue.
